FIGHTING MECHANICS

✻ no godmodding or powerplaying. obviously, guys. it's first grade, spongebob. if we see you do this, you're gonna forfeit the battle whether you like it or not. if you need to know if something is godmodding or powerplaying, please ask a staff member. it's better to be safe than sorry, after all.
✻ trainers give the orders and gijinkas do the fighting. trainers are there to give the orders. you know, the whole "venusaur, use vine whip!" sort of thing. simple enough, but here's the difference; your gijinka will not feel the pain of an attack. the pain bounces from the gijinka right to the trainer instead. battles are judged based on if a trainer faints from the pain of a battle rather than the gijinka. so, if your gijinka gets hit with an ice beam, the trainer is going to be the one feeling the chill.
✻ dodges are limited. you may only dodge a move three times in battle total. two may not be in a row. if you dodge a fourth time, bad things happen, so just don't do it man. also you can't dodge a move that never misses, such as shock wave or swift.
✻ status moves affect the pair. so, yes, trainers will feel the pain, and any status effecting moves, such as leer, howl, or focus energy will affect the gijinka fighting as well as the trainer. for instance, a trainer will be more hesitant in calling an attack if growl is used, and attacks will hurt them more if they are affected by leer. in that vein, a gijinka that has been confused by supersonic, confuse ray, or something like that, will either land their attack on their opponent... or on their trainer on accident. so be careful.
✻ pokemon types still apply. is your gijinka a grass type? then guess what, your trainer will be feeling fire type moves a lot more harshly and will be knocked out much more quickly. think of it as a type advantage always goes to the gijinka, whereas the type disadvantage affects the trainer much more. check veekun for more information on pokemon type advantages and disadvantages.
✻ moves still exist here. your gijinka will start off with moves learned at level 5. if you look at veekun, you can find move sets for your gijinka's movesets. as you gain levels, you will learn more moves; you do not have to forget moves in order to learn new ones. if you end up with 100 moves, then that's fine. just be sure to follow the level system! a bulbasaur won't know solarbeam at level 6. you do not have tm moves or egg moves at your disposal unless you purchase some in the shop.
✻ levels also exist. okay, before you all give your collective groans, our level system is different from other pokemon sites; rather than gaining levels after every battle you win or lose, you can buy level serums in the shop in order to gain levels. gijinkas are the only ones that are able to gain levels officially, but their levels reflect the strength of their trainer and their trainer's pain tolerance, therefore making them both stronger. gijinkas can reach up to level 100. your gijinka will start off at level five.
✻ evolution? why, yes, we do have that. evolution will not happen based on your pokemon spirit's level system (for example, dragonair won't turn into dragonite at level 50). rather, you will prove how much trust you have between yourself and your partner. how do you do this? well, when you go to the shop, there is a form you may fill out for obtaining an evolution serum. fill out the form and follow its instructions and you'll be ready to go. remember, an evolved form gijinka will be stronger than a non-evolved one, because the trust between a gijinka and trainer has allowed him or her to reach evolution.
✻ and a second evolution? so if you have a larvesta, it only evolves once, into volcarona. if you have a chimchar, it evolves twice, from monferno into infernape. in order to get that second evolution serum, it will only take two extra completed threads with you and your trainer and a nuked price. it's much less difficult to get your second evolution this way.
note: when you join, you may choose what form that your gijinka will take on permanently; you do not change their appearance after they evolve.
✻ battle rewards when you battle, you gain money rewards. each battle will give each member of the team a $40 bonus for winning, and a $20 bonus for losing. you may use this money in the shop to get whatever you'd like. an administrator will judge your battles to make sure the winners are the correct ones (aka, don't godmod or powerplay or we'll take the win away and not give you any money at all!) if you buy an item in the middle of a battle thread, you cannot gain its effects until the battle is finished. you can't go into a battle at level 6 and suddenly turn into a level 30 wrecking machine in the middle of it, that would be unfair. same goes for any move bought or evolution item used.
✻ special cases there are a few special types of pairs that will change the dynamics of battling, but not by too much. they are as follows:
blanks are special cases, as they are seen as "substitutes" for a "real" pair. if they fight as a gijinka alone, they will be only a fraction as powerful as a true pair as well as feel the pain of hits that a trainer would usually take. a trainer blank, by nature, cannot fight on their own.
zeros are also a special case; these pairs cannot feel the pain inflicted on them. this is both good and bad for obvious reasons - a zero who feels no pain will be able to go on for far longer without feeling the need to faint. however, they will always have some form of weakness. zeros are more prone to severe injury or death, as well, because lack of pain doesn't tell them when to quit.
