[/style] [STYLE=padding: 8px; font-family: arial; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; margin-top: 0px; width: 276px;]nature had always been her friend. from the very start, and all through her school years, she had always liked the peace and quiet nature gave her. nothing like the feeling of nothing around you then being in the forest. growing up in sleepless, she'd know about this forest for years, often climbing trees and finding herself stuck up in them eventually. she'd eventually learned to climb down them, after having her father come out and help her down. now at the ripe age of twenty-one, ruari could easily climb up and down them without trouble. now, what she was doing here? that was the ultimate question, one even she didn't know all that well. the peace and quiet was the main reason, but there was something else she couldn't quite place. at the moment, she still had no partner to bond with, so perhaps she was testing her limits of how far she could go? even she didn't understand her own thought process sometimes.
her eyes moved about once more. finding the perfect place to sit. she had ended up in the heart of the forest, away from the noise of the city, and the peace and quiet she adored. she found herself seating at the base of one of the bigger trees, leaning back against the trunk and tucking her hair behind her ears. after a moment of fighting with the mess of hair, she wrapped it with her hair band, before leaning back. " there. now i can sit back. no technology or anything to distract me " she commented with a satisfied smile. the red-head opened the book she had taken with her, eyes immediately starting in on the first page. it had been awhile since she had been able to read, in between classes. it was odd thinking she was teaching in the same school she had graduated from, but still, she enjoyed the company of her students, even if most were taller then her.
but that was beside the point. ruari just needed an afternoon for herself, one that was quiet and in with nature. she rook in a slow breath, letting it out just as slow as she managed to untangle her headphones, popping the jack into the small music player she had brought with her, and putting one of the ear buds into her ear. and now, she was all set for the relaxing afternoon. Sterling was out here of his own free will. He wasn't on a case, hunting criminals, or scouting out for Team Rocket members. He wasn't on the job at all. This was his free time, but a phone was always on hand, in his pocket, in case of an emergency. He was always on-call. But he had other things on his mind today. Like clearing his mind and thinking of anything but work. To do that, he would go running. It was that simple. One run and he could get all the bad moments out of his head entirely. Sterling wouldn't consider himself very attractive in the sweatpants and muscle shirt that he wore, but it was more comfortable than his uniform. The officer had come to a halt, panting as he rested his hands on his hips and looked up into the trees. His chest quickly rose and fell, his cheeks gone red as he tried to get the breath back into his body. But what Sterling concentrated on was the out of place colors among the leaves. There was a pinky-red that stood out against all the green and brown foliage. "You think it's safe to be out here?" Sterling called out to the figure, his tone serious. But a smile graced his lips, knowing this little redhead anywhere. "Ruari."This was the forest and a lot of shady activity was known to go on out here. Forests and lakes were where most of the illegal activities went on. That is, when people were looking for places to hide bodies, whether it was someone else's or their own. But he didn't think Ruari was hurting anybody. Though Sterling worried that she might be the one hurt if she stayed out here too long and ran into the wrong people. [/style]

" sterling! how long have you been standing there? i must look like a creeper being out here all alone " she said with a nervous chuckle, glancing down as she realized she had lost her page. she grumbled under her breath, before saving her place and standing up. of course, it didn't help much at all. the green-haired male was still a monster next to her short form. the growlithe-gijinka growled under her breath a bit, standing on her tip toes.
" did you hit a growth spurt? " ruari questioned, her crimson eyes narrowed down at him. a silly question, considering he was a couple years older then her twenty-one years. the english teacher gave him a once over, noting his clothing and quirking a brow. " and i thought you didn't go out in public like that. it's so very attractive " she said with a laugh, reaching down to grab her headphones and music player, patting her pockets before remembering she had left her phone at home. it was a good thing, too. she probably would have thrown it at the police officer if he had scared her too badly.
" what brings you out here, officer? under cover, or off duty? " the girl question, finally dropping down to her unimpressive height of four feet and eleven inches, and tucked her book and music player back into her pocket, turning her eyes towards her giant of a friend once more. [/style] |

"A creeper? If anything, you look lonely. So, I'd say it's a good thing I happened upon you right about now," Sterling grinned, his hands dusting off his pants real quick before standing straight. His hands were on his back, stretching and arching forward as he heard a little crack. A relieved sigh left his mouth and he cracked a single eyelid open to stare at the girl, who was now in front of him. Below him, rather. She was so tiny. Like a little puppy. She was a Growlithe after all, wasn't she? And Sterling did love dogs. Sterling snorted and took a few steps closer to the girl, reaching out to give her forehead a sudden poke. Was she teasing him? Who in their right mind teased a police officer? People who happened to know that officer personally and outside of work, of course. "Off duty. If I were undercover, I'd at least wear a suit and look good doing it. This is my jogging uniform! What did you expect? A matching sweatsuit?" He wouldn't be caught dead in one of those. He'd rather be running in jeans or even naked. But a nude Sterling on the run would surely disturb the piece and be against the law. No one enjoyed public nudity. Did they? [/style]

" i was reading, so i wasn't all that lonely. i had the characters in the book to keep me company " she said with a bit of a smile, patting her bag to which she had placed all her belongings in. it was rare to see her without the bag over her shoulder.
" hey! " the red-head said as she rubbed at her forehead after sterling had poked her, eyes narrowing down dangerously. she had always had a thing for teasing the officer, considering she knew for a fact that he wouldn't harm her. funny how things like that happened. once you got to know someone, they didn't seem to frightening. she smirked a but at him. " well, i did in fact assume you'd wear something matching " ruari said as he circled around the police officer, skipping around so she stood in front of him. " of course, a suit would probably give you away. not everyone looks good, you know " the red-head said with a wink, grinning widely at her friend. now, this was a good bantering she enjoyed. she didn't get to have it too often, considering she didn't get out all that much. but that was beside the point. " never pictured you for a forest kinda person " ruari said with a laugh. [/style] |

Sterling never understood the pleasures of reading that everyone else did. Everyone around him was always lost in their fictional novels with people who were never even real. Sure, the officer did his fair share of reading here and there, but they were all historical books- usually novels about war stories. "Do you prefer your characters over me for company?" the officer asked, arms over his chest as he stood up straight, making himself even taller- as if he weren't tall enough as it was when he slouched. The man stood still as the girl circled him, his feet planted to the ground as only his head turned to keep his eyes fixed on her, a playful little smile visible there on his lips. "Well, lucky for me, I do look good. Always. No matter what I'm wearing," Sterling stated the blatant fact. It was a joke though! He wasn't trying to sound seriously full of himself and narcissistic. But he didn't think he looked half bad. Mornings were spent running and working out, and what more could the ladies want than a well built man? "You're right. I'm the ocean kind of guy. Too bad the closest thing we've got is a lake," came the sigh, one of his hands slipping into his pocket now as he reached out and hooked his arm around Ruari's neck, pulling the girl close to him. He'd do anything for a nice polar bear swim. If he'd been born a gijinka, he'd be a water type. Maybe a water type dog. Too bad those didn't exist, from what he knew of all the books he'd been through. The closest was Suicidine- who might well be a cat. [/style]

Did she want her characters over him for company? Of course not. The characters may give her a certain type of peace, but it was nothing on having friends around. " Of course not. I'd rather have the company of you than characters. Though, the characters don't tease me all the time. " The red-head said with a wink as she planted herself in front of him after making her round about him. Sterling had to be one of the few people she actually talked to. It wasn't that she wasn't social enough, in small groups of people.
The girl laughed softly to herself as Sterling spoke. Of course, he would make a comment like that. " Sure you do. I bet you couldn't pull off bright pink " Ruari said, hands on her hips as she stood in front of him. If someone were to compare them to animals, it may look a bit like a lion (Sterling) against as mouse (Ruari), simply because of their height difference. Ruari didn't let anyone forget she was there, though. At his next response to her, she couldn't help but shiver. " The ocean is not a good place to go. It's all salty and gross. " As a fire-type Gijinka, she wasn't inclined to water. Of course, she did enjoy her blazing hot showers and soaks in a bath tub. As long as they were as hot as the flames she knew one day she'd produce. A shiver ran down her spine after a moment.
" You wanna grab something to eat? I guess I've been out here long enough that my stomach is growling " The Growlithe gijinka asked, patting her flat stomach before draping her bag over her shoulder. A smirk crossed over her features. " Bend down, would ya? Not everyone's a giant like you " If he did that, operation "Hitch-A-Ride" would be in effect. She knew he could easily hold her weight on his back, so why not grab a free ride? [/style] |

But he didn't want to try it or find out. Especially not in public. He'd look like a homosexual- or worse, a meterosexual. "Maybe one day I'll show you just how sexy I look in a pink shirt and... pink... leather pants?" he trailed off, seeming a little confused at the thought. Leather was sexy, wasn't it? Whether it was black, brown or pink. He'd pull it off. But not literally. He didn't need to scar the poor little girl for life with his masculine and bare legs.
Oh, right, she was a fire type, wasn't she? And a dog. Sterling had always been the dog type of man. He considered them to be man's best friend. Unfortunately, he loved the ocean as much as he loved dogs and would be absolutely torn if he had to choose between the two of them. He more or less grew up in a lake with a bunch of water happy dogs. But none of those dogs had a weakness for water like Ruari did. "It's not gonna kill you! Just get you a little wet and make your fur- er... hair smell a little salty and dogish. But that's nothing some shampoo can't fix!" Sterling laughed at her merrily, as he stopped back and turned around, leaving her behind him now.
With a weak groan, he rolled his eyes and bent himself over a bit, making him an easy target to jump and climb on top of. "You're asking me to bend over. Is this like the scene where you take advantage of me while I pick up soap?" Sterling was awful. But it was all he could think of when he heard the words 'bend over.' He thought food sounded great right about now. He was craving something meaty. Burgers or steaks or even a nice porkchop. The man was the ultimate carnivore. [/style] |

This she had to see. And she wouldn't let him forget that. Not ever. A wiry grin spread over her features. " I'm holding you to that, Ster. Don't make me miss laughing at that show " Ruari said, her face bright with laughter. That would be a much too entertaining show to miss. She grinned widely, rolling back and forth on her heels.
A stray shutter passed over her as she spoke about getting water on her, salt water. She swallowed as if she tasted the salt water in her mouth. She wasn't too sure if she had ever been to the ocean, but she always felt a weird salt taste in her mouth.. Or maybe that was whatever creature that was in her body? But what would a fire type want with salt? She didn't really understand it, but figured she should just shake it off for now. If she started thinking too hard about it, Sterling would notice. " My fur doesn't smell with water, you jerk. It's a very special kind of fur that doesn't smell like dog, or whatever you thought it was. " Ruari said with a huffing breath.
As he started walking away, Ruari couldn't help but run after him, barely pausing as he bent down. She jumped on his back, her tiny body wrapping easily around his tall, muscular frame. " Now now, mister dirty boy. We're not in a shower, and even then, wouldn't I need to bend over for something like that to work? " She questioned, then nudged his sides with her legs, much like urging on a horse. " Onward Sterling, awaaaaaay! " She cried, out, rather excitedly. [/style] |

There was no way that he'd fit into some leather pants. He wouldn't be able to pull them up over his beefy, masculine thighs. The only leather item he owned was a wallet, some belts and a jacket he never even wore before. But if it was where public couldn't see, Sterling supposed he could let Ruari watch him struggle with pink leather and laugh at him over it. She was a friend, after all. And friends laughed at each other for doing stupid things. She just needed to wait. One day, she'd do something stupid and he'd be all over it in his own fit of laughter.
"A special kind of fur? I supposed it's called hair," the man started chuckling before he felt a sudden weight fall down on his back. Sterling was strong. He managed to stay on his feet- she wasn't too heavy- but let out a quick oof as he put his hands on her legs to try and keep her up. He'd feel guilty if he dropped her on accident. "Yeesh, how much do you weigh? More than me? I've met fat men who weigh less than you!" Sterling didn't mean it. Not for a minute. It was rude and harsh, but it was only a joke. He felt like he was carrying a puppy. A big puppy, but a puppy none the less. [/style] |

" Don't be rude! I barely weigh anything, and you know it. You're the one always moving me when I fall asleep on the couch. You can't expect Dustin to. " Ruari said as she tightened her arms around him. Sometimes, she wondered if she was a Aipom gijinka instead of a Growlithe. But then, something had told her that she was, in fact, a fire-type. Not that she minded. Fire types were known for having more fun, right?
" It's not quite hair. It's softer, but not as soft as fur. It's hard to explain, okay. Jeeze. Just get moving. My stomach's growling! " She said, wiggling about on his back. The sooner they got to the cafe, the better. She hadn't eaten earlier before going out, and the fact that the flame inside her, like most fire types, ate up most of whatever they ate. She had a puppy-heart, one that was clearly full of energy. " what'cha waiting for, christmas? " Ruari asked after a moment, before running off his back and dancing around. Of course, she wanted the ride, but walking together would be easier, and faster. A coy smile spread over her features.
" Ster, I challenge you to a race! Last one there, has to pay! No ifs ands of buts! " She said excitedly. If she had a tail, it would clearly be wagging. She didn't happen to have that kind of trait of her pokemon. The only traits she had were the red hair and undying loyalty, or so it would seem. Without waiting for an answer (and knowing he couldn't refuse a challenge) the girl took off into the woods, darting between the trees and heading for town. [/style] |
