The tent and sleeping bags were packed away in the back of the truck, along with the cooler of food and backpacks of their clothing, possessions and necessities. All that they'd need to go camping. There were a few extra blankets thrown back there as well. It was still January. Hardly the month or season to be out camping. But Sterling couldn't wait until summer to spend a night in the wild with his dearest and most treasured friend.
It didn't look like anyone else was at the lake as he pulled the truck up a distance beside it, tugging on the gears and backing up underneath a tree. He shut off the vehicle and pocketed his keys as he looked over at his passenger. Sterling flashed the blond a smile and reached over to give his shoulder a little nudge, in case he'd fallen asleep on the way there.
"Dust, we're here. Do you think this looks like a good spot? There's trees, which should be a good tarp for the tent," Sterling went right ahead to explain, jumping out the driver's seat and door and immediately scouting out for any previously made fire pits. Or maybe they'd need to make their own. It wouldn't be a problem. Sterling had camped countless times before in his life. He might as well have been raised in the wild. [/style] |

The gentle touch to his shoulder brought the young male back to his senses, and he soon was beaming. Quick to open teh door and stumble out of the car, Dustin let out an excited cheer before circling around the area once and moving before Sterling, nodding quickly. His eyes were lit up with excitement, his ears perked straight up while he looked around with a terrible curiosity. If he was more of a canine type, his tail would he going a mile a moment.
Dustin was over joyed, and it showed. It had been a long time since the boy was this cheerful, this scatterminded in the best sort of way. He wasn't sure what to focus on first! Moving a bit away from the car, the lake was in clear view. He turned back to Sterling, tugging the other's sleeve. "The lake!! It's so pretty and..and no one's here an.d.. i've never been this close to the lake, it's so awesome!". He forgot to breath, having to catch his breath at the end before grinning at the other and quickly moving to the truck, trying ot unload everything. "We gotta set up! I wanna explore and hike a-and fish and-..". He stopped and looked at the other before hushing. A large flush came over his face and the child hugged thw sleeping back in his grasp against his own chest. "..Sorry. I just.. No one ever wanted to go camping with me! I'm..really happy.." Maybe, if this night went well, they could stay out here by the lake for a few nights. In Sterling's dreams. They both had jobs, didn't they? He doubted they could stay out for more than a night or two without being called in for 'emergencies.' Sterling popped open the back of the truck, making it much easier for Dustin to get in to try and unload. Sterling first went for the tent, slinging the bag over his shoulder and moving to inspect the ground.
"Help me find somewhere flat. We can't have rocks or hills. We gotta get this set up and out of the way before we get too tired to do it later," Sterling explained, kicking some rocks out of the way to try and clear a nice spot. There was a lot he wanted to do with Dustin today. By the time they were done, they'd be exhausted and they'd need a place to pass out. The ground wouldn't be a good place for that. He spared Dustin a glance, and a little smile. He was glad he wasn't the only excited one. [/style] |

He felt around the ground, tossing away any rocks and looking up at the other every now and then. He waited until Sterling gave him the alright that he did well. By the time they had made the ground well enough, their hands were dirty and Dustin was already laughing. This was much more fun than being trapped at home! Kneeling on the ground, he stared up at the other, tilting his head faintly. " .. Will this be alright?". He spoke this softly before shifting a bit closer towards the other, not minding as his pants got dirty, looking up at the older man. " .. We're not gonna get eatten by bears, right?" [/style] |

There was a nod of his head and he dropped the bag onto the grass, unzipping it and pulling out the pieces. First came the tent itself and then the bag of poles. He moved his gaze to rest on Dustin and raised his curious eyebrows. "You ever set up a tent before or am I gonna have to teach you?" he chuckled, grabbing for the tent and starting to spread it out neatly, so that they could see how big it was. They could both easily fit and have a ton of room to spare. They didn't even need this much room. "Dustin, it's January. I think bears are still hibernating. They should be the last of your worries. Sea monsters and sasquatches, on the other hand, might appear at any minute. So keep your eyes wide open." [/style] |

He didn't want to say it, but in a very soft whisper, he replied. "No.. Either I just slept in a bag or..". He slept in a bush once. That was a story he didn't like to talk about. As far as him and Sterling were concerned, he didn't exist before he met the other man. It would stay that way. Tossing him a smile, Dustin inched closer, looking at how he worked with the tent, soon pouting at the other's words. "I don't believe in that stuff..". So he said at least. Yet, tonight, he'd be pressed tight to Sterling in a light fear. What a jerk. [/style] |

He'd only been joking. He didn't think there was anything to be afraid of out here, as long as no serial killers were hiding out in those trees. But they'd be stupid to try and attack now when an armed police officer- though off duty- was in the area. Sterling started sticking the poles through their correct sleeves, hammering down the pegs into the dirt so that their tent wasn't going to be blown away so easily if wind should come along. It took ten minutes tops and the tent was erect. "And that's how to build a tent. Next time, you're helping me." It was a playful and teasing comment, a smirk on his lips as he unzipped the door and started piling blankets, pillows and sleeping bags from the truck into the little house, in no particular order. He made it look like a neat, dumb little home before looking over his shoulder at the other with a grin. Turning around, he crawled over to Sterling and popped his head out of the tent so his face was near the trainer's, speaking softly. "..Can we go fishing? Teach me to hook a worm! ..please. sir." He was trying to be polite, but he looked giddy. Ready to jump the other with a hug and cover him in kisses of thanks. Oh wait. He was always like that. [/style] |

He had two rods in the back and even took the time to pick up a little canister of worms for their trip, just so that they wouldn't have to spend too long looking for their own and dirtying their hands. Sterling reached down from the opening in the tent, ruffling up that blond mop of hair before he motioned for the kid to follow him to the truck. "You ever fished before at all? You're supposed to have a license to catch anything. Luckily, I do. But that means, if you catch anything, I take the credit or you could be in trouble," Sterling teased, shuffling through the truck to find where he'd safely placed his prized possessions. Even though he was the police officer, he was willing to bend the rules. Was killing a few fish without a license that big of a deal anyways? [/style] |

He was happy - spilling over with joy actually. "I don't mind! .. I just wanna spend time with you. Even if it is on a tiny, sticky boat". He laughed now, pulling away to shift around and looked at the trees, their tent, then the man. " .. I promise to do everything you say! I don't want you in trouble - but you better not deny it between us that i'ma catch the biggest fish, remember that!" [/style] |

I use to fish out on lakes and oceans and ponds all the time as a kid. Even in rivers with my bare hands. You're gonna have to have a whole damn lot of experience and talent if you're gonna best me," Sterling teased, a cocky smirk on his lips. He wasn't gonna lose a fishing contest to Dustin or anyone. He took pride in what few talents he had. Fishing was one of those talents. He handed one of the rods to Dustin and raised an eyebrow. "You know how to get the bobber and lure? Or how to bait it?" Sterling raised an eyebrow, the second rod between his legs to hold it in place as he tugged on the line and grabbed the necessary pieces from his tackle box. He'd done this a million times. Use to fish, go crabbing..but we used chicken legs fro that". He laughed softly and held the pole steady while he started to try and hook the fish. He mumbled this before looking towards the other. "..can you help me cast? It's been a long time - I don't wanna hurt you.. or nick my tail."['b] His ears lowered at the thought. [/style] |
